PRESCOTT, ARIZ. - Kicking off a great weekend of racing, the 10th annual Whiskey Off-Road hit pavement Friday night with 51 pro women and 88 pro men competing in a fat tire criterium on the streets of downtown Prescott, just as the 9-5 crowd was getting off work.
With the streets lined with enthusiastic spectators, the pro's hammered down on 15 minutes plus five laps of intense racing.
In the women's race Katrina Nash (Luna/Orbea/Shimano) beat out several top competitors for the the first place finish. Nash duked it our with Lesley Peterson (Scott Bikes, 2xU, View Hotels) Choe Woodruff (Crankbrothers, Scott Bikes, Momentum Endurance) and Kelli Emmett (Giant/Sram Schwalbe) for a top podium spot.
In the mens race Max Plaxton (Sho-Air/ Cannondale) beat out favorite Geoff Kabush (SCOTT-3Rox Racing, Oakley, Shimano) for the first place finish.
With $40,000 on the line for top finishers, competition is expected to be fierce. Record numbers of participants in both the pro and amatuer categories should make for a great weekend of racing.
