Tifosi Mast (Fototec lens)
Finding a versatile pair of shades functional enough for the trail but stylish enough for that after ride beer can be a task, especially on a budget. But sunglass manufacturer Tifosi, has continued to impress with their well priced line of sport specific glasses. But these budget specs pack the punch of many higher priced glasses on the market, while doing so for well under $100.
At $70 msrp, the Mast is a glass that offers clean casual style crossed with the functionality of a performance sport glass. Offered in a variety of frame and lens color options, the Mast fits medium to large faces really well with a snug well shaped fit. The rounded shape keeps them close to your face providing ample protection from trail debris while an adjustable rubber nose piece allows for fit alteration. Rubber inserts at placed at the end of the arms keep the glasses from moving around in bouncy situations.
As tested, the Mast featured Tifosi’s Fototec lenses, which adapt to changing light conditions by lightening or darkening. Like many of the high priced options out there, the Fototec lenses provided great versatility while on the bike. Although they do take about 45 seconds to fully lighten or darken, the Fototec lenses were noticeable in varied light conditions, making them a great choice for mountain biking.
At $70 Tifosi offers the Mast with the Fototec lenses and for $60 the Mast is offered with 3 traditional lenses of varying tint options, both include a soft case and lens cloth. For the price, the Mast is a great product, a durable frame construction, snug adjustable fit, and a style that can be used both on and off the bike. If shades in excess of $100 make you cringe, but quality functional glasses are a priority, Tifosi is a great option.
