Motorex Cleaning and Lube
Review by Kurt Smith
Most cyclist would agree that a properly tuned and well-lubed bike amplifies the overall riding experience. Another group of riders, myself included, believes that a clean and shiny bike is just plain faster. Motorex Oil of Switzerland understands this “obsession” and their products are designed to create a clean, lubed, and finely tuned bicycle.
Less known in the US cycling industry, Motorex has a long and distinguished reputation in motorsports lube and cleaning products. This independent, family-owned Swiss business has been producing lubricants and cleaning products since 1947 starting with humble roots in leather care products way back in 1917. Motorex continues to manufacture their products in Switzerland, keeping a close eye on quality and development. With products ranging from high-end race motorcycle oils and lubes to various cleaning products, it is obvious that Motorex is committed to quality maintenance.
I initially had some trepidation with using the cleaning products, unsure how they would affect my custom paint jobs or costly carbon frame. But Motorex understands high-end machines and has invested a great deal of thought into their products, definitively stating their cleaning products will dissolve oils and dirt without harm to paint or carbon.
OK, so how did they perform? Pretty much just as described, the two types of cleaning products offer specific cleaning applications. Their “Bike Clean” is a pump-style liquid that is biodegradable and is used mainly for dirt and grime around . The aerosol “Easy Clean” degreaser is formulated to dissolve grease/oil along with dirt and drivetrain grime. Both performed well requiring very little effort with their spray on, let sit, and rinse off process. After completing the wash it was time to try the “Bike Shine”. One word comes to mind, “Wow”. This product will make your bike sparkle.
Lastly in the process is lube. Because of the current riding conditions I chose the Dry lube, specially formulated to dry, dusty conditions. The chain was silent for up to three rides before requiring reapplication. A few weeks later we had a period of rain that gave me a chance to test the wet lube and once again performance was solid with no excessive build up of chain grime.
Motorex has a line of lubricant, care, and cleaning products so extensive that I recommend going directly to their website to check out everything they have to offer. If you are like myself and appreciate a silent and shiny bike then you will quickly become a Motorex fan.
