With the popularity of trail oriented products flooding the mountain bike market, helmets are no exception. Featuring a more rounded profile, greater cranium coverage, and a truly unique style make these brain buckets perfect for riders looking for added protection without compromising on style.
Giro’s latest addition to their MTB line is the Feature, a moto influenced trail helmet aimed at the hip all-mountain crowd. At $75, the Feature is an entry level priced helmet with a fit rivaling that of much higher end models. Compared with other similar style helmets on the market, the Feature provided the best fit and comfort with the least expensive price tag.
Though the Feature appears to offer limited ventilation, strategically placed vents up front and a rear exhaust system provided sufficient airflow for extended ascents. Internally, channels are placed between crucial structure points to decrease weight and improve airflow through the helmet.
Internally, Giro’s In-Form fit system provides a snug fit with a full 6cm of on-the-fly adjustability. Muted black and white options are available along side brighter, more visible color choices, but overall the aesthetics of the Feature are clean and simple. Although the styling may not be for everyone, protection and fit are the most attractive features of this helmet. Long, all day XC slogs in hot temperatures will warrant a different helmet choice, but if you find yourself pushing the limits, ample protection is key and this helmet fits the bill. Reasonably priced, stylish, and super comfortable all describe the new Giro Feature, but its well rounded protection will quickly make it your go-to helmet. -J. Carr Follow @Carr_Jordan
