Honey Stinger - Trek to Host Singletrack Bender in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
50 Mile Endurance Race Among the Party Favors - Bring Your Fast Tires
(May, 31.2011) STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.– Honey Stinger, the leading manufacturer of honey-based nutritional products, is pleased to announce a new endurance mountain bike race to be held in its hometown of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. “The Steamboat Stinger” will feature a 50-mile course composed of two 25-mile laps, nearly all of it on singletrack.
“The Steamboat Stinger offers a phenomenal race course in a true Colorado mountain town,” states Len Zanni, Honey Stinger’s marketing director. “Given the growth in popularity of classic longer format cross-country races like the Gunnison Growler and Breckenridge’s Firecracker 50, we knew that the growing local trail network was worthy of a similar event. We’ve always known that Steamboat Springs could offer something in the same vein, plus we get to play a role in supporting our community and local non-profit organizations.”
To be held annually, proceeds from the event will be split among four local entities; youth mentoring organization Partners of Routt County, the Howelsen / Emerald Mountain Partnership (HEMP), local cycling advocacy group Routt County Riders, and volunteer emergency assistance organization Routt County Search and Rescue.
“The City of Steamboat Springs is excited that Honey Stinger has chosen to bring a quality endurance mountain bike race to Steamboat Springs,” offers Craig Robinson from Steamboat’s Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services Department. “The event will be utilizing some of the best singletrack trails we have to offer on Howelsen Hill and the adjacent BLM property on Emerald Mountain - spectators and participants won't be disappointed with this epic event.”
The inaugural event will take place on Sunday, July 24, with the start and finish located at the base of Howelsen Hill, located just across the Yampa River from downtown Steamboat Springs. Sanctioned by USA Cycling, entrants may elect to participate in solo or duo categories, all of which are detailed on the event’s information page, www.honeystinger.com/steamboatstinger.
