25 Hours in Frog Hollow 

GRO Promotions is preparing for the 3nd Annual 25 hours in Frog Hollow to be held on Nov 6-7 in Hurricane UT.  The 25 and 6 hours of Frog Hollow were conceived as a way to build southern Utah’s mountain biking culture by improving the community’s awareness of Mountain Biking and all its benefits. This is a grass roots event to show case the amazing terrain in Southwestern Utah and build and share the fabulous cycling culture. This event is also designed to raise money for the planning, construction, and maintenance of local trails. A portion of each entry goes back to improve cycling opportunities for all. 

The 25 hours of Frog Hollow is held over the “fall back” time change every year, hence providing one additional hour of riding in the day and making the event the longest one day race ever. It also has one of the longest night hours of any 24 hour race, with dark being just over 12 hours. A participant can go out for their last lap any time before the 25th hour, so top competitors may actually ride 26 hours or more to earn their title.

The 13 mile course, held on the spectacular trails of the IMBA EPIC (2010) Hurricane Cliffs trails network, uses portions of the Hurricane Rim and Jem Trails, as well as some connecting dirt roads. It has 800 feet of climbing that is done in the first five miles, followed by a fun and fast decent. The course becomes a little technical around mile 9, where racers begin to encounter the flagstone rocks. The last 1 ½ miles is a rock garden of rock slabs in and out of Virgin River tributary dry washes. Because this is a perfect contour trail is also makes an ideal single speed course.  It is the kind of course that makes you want to ride it again and again.  The fastest male riders complete the course in around 48 minutes and the fastest females in just less than an hour,  top solo racers complete 20 laps during the day, and the record for the most team laps sits at 30 for a 4 person male team.

 The fun starts at “Frog Town” which is always lively and fun – for racers and support alike. We have various events throughout the day and night, concluding with a band and catered meal just before awards in the morning.  If you are racing you can look forward to mid night pie, banana bread, and other homemade goodies in the exchange tent, and out on course you never know what spooking or fun the volunteers will have. The best part is that 25 hours is always just after Halloween so we encourage everyone to dress in costume. There are always plenty of prizes and extra fun to reward those who are super creative… what will you be this year?

The 2^nd annual 6 hours in Frog Hollow is a perfect introduction to endurance racing or training race for your late fall or early spring 24 hour race.  Held on the spectacular trails of the IMBA EPIC (2010) Hurricane Cliffs trails network, this course has everything; double track for passing, ripping fast and flowing single track on the descents, and a little techy section to keep you thinking. Because this is a perfect contour trail is also makes an ideal single speed course.  And competition in the solo categories is usually tough, with the course record set at 48:11 min for the 13 mile course and the top races completing over 5 laps in the 6 hours.

But don’t forget the fun, with many racers dressing in costume the atmosphere is as lively as it is intense. This year’s theme is animals and there will be an extra special prize for anyone who dresses as a Frog. And everyone is hoping the OTE bootie girls will be back. The races is well supported with Honey Stinger and other goodies throughout the race, music , prizes and give-aways, and a post-race meal of your choice at one of several great restaurants in Hurricane city.
