(April 28, 2012) BOULDER, Colo. - Every year for the last 7 or 8 years the Colorado version of the European Koppenberg race has been held on the outskirts of Boulder where a quiet farm road turns to dirt and then suddenly kicks up into a short 17% grade. The climb may not rival the true Koppenberg, but nonetheless, many racers look forward to testing their strength and skills as they tackle this 5.5 mile loop that is almost 50% gravel.

(April 25, 2012) BOULDER, COLO.-It’s that time of year again; road cycling teams are gearing up for the first big Tours of the season on American turf. Races like the Tour of Utah, The Tour of California, and the newer US Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado are drawing more and more of the international Pro Tour teams as UCI points are up for grabs. With many Pro Tour teams automatically invited to these tours, often times younger teams need to perform well in the early season races to be asked to ride in some of the bigger later season races.

(April 26, 2012) Elko, Nev. - This next segment was set up to be a ‘gimme’ and would be a bit of a stretch. We’d departed Vernal Utah late due to a wiper-motor issue with Michael’s truck, and decided somehow that it was worth it to make the sprint across Utah and deep into Nevada to try to rid ourselves of one of the peskier-sections of tarmac that obstructed us from our crossover into the loamy-goodness of the Pacific NorthWest singletrack that awaited.

Spring Blizzard Cuts Dawn 'til Dusk Short
GALLUP, N.M. - Despite the fact that many parts of the Southwest have been enjoying an early spring, a strong snowstorm put the damper on the day's racing festivities at this year's Dawn 'til Dusk 12-Hour Mountain Bike Race. About an hour into the race the first snow began to fall and steadily increased, by 9:30 am the race was called due to heavy snow conditions. The final lap was completed at about 11:30 am.
Made in Sun Valley Idaho, a place where wild-eyed patriots and a knobby breed of cyclists often share the same beer-stained bar stools and common ground over the governance of public lands and what freedom means.

I walked into Cafe Dawn, the choice coffee shop in Salida, Colorado, and the woman behind the counter, said "Nice hat!" I was sporting my new brown tweed wool cycling cap from Walz Caps. Now, Salida is a cycling town, so not everyone everywhere is going to consider a cycling hat a fashion statement, but I'll take it where I can get it.
