2012 US Gravity National Championships

By Eddie Clark

(July 25, 2012) BEECH MOUNTAIN, NC.— The second edition of national championship gravity racing at Beech Mountain saw new champions rise to the occasion on slightly different but decidely faster courses.  While much of the downhill and dual slalom courses remained practically the same as last year, the bottoms of both courses were extended and improved for faster and more technical racing.  Notably, the donwhill was significantly faster due to not getting soaked with five inches of rain the night before finals as was the case last year.  Also different was the omission of the long pedalling section before the finish, which was instead replaced by a crowd pleasing rock drop to an off camber roll-over into the finish of a consolidated base area.

The Green Man was actually pretty
fast.Neko Mulally stormed to his first
pro dual slalom national championship with speed and style.Cody Kelley shows more promise
for his future with a fourth in the pro dual slalom.Brian Buell put in the hard work
to earn the bronze medal in the dual slalom.Jackie Harmony gave Melissa Buhl
some good competition in Buehl's ride to gold (even if it was on a dh bike!).Neko Mulally gives
it one last hard kick to take the gold in a super tight race against Blake Carney.
