DENVER — Gates Carbon Drive Systems and Shimano recognized builders at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) for their integration of a Gates carbon drive paired with the Shimano Alfine internally geared hub. Contest entries were judged on their sliding dropouts, belt-tensioning systems, frame splits and other design factors. Builders received cash and equipment prizes totaling more than $16,000.
