Mission

Mountain Flyer will showcase the riders, racers, events, and culture of rocky mountain cycling. Covering cross-country, downhill, cyclocross, road racing, and adventure riding. Our ultimate goal is to be an information resource for cyclists and a marketing tool for the business' and manufacturers who serve them.

Details

Cycling events are the driving force behind the growth of our sport. Participation is high at regional events, including the Mountain States Cup, 24-hour races, and 100-mile epics, but media coverage at these events is minimal. Mountain Flyer will fill this void.

Comprehensive coverage of regional cycling events will aid in the growth of the sport by increasing awareness of the events and racers. In addition, sponsors will be provided with a format to market their products and promote their teams. Without media coverage, there is little incentive for a business to sponsor an event or a race team.

Our Roots:

Mountain Flyer has come together as a result of many peoples generous volunteer work. It is basically a grass roots start up with an all-star cast of very experienced and talented individuals. We are committed to providing a high quality publication.

Our Staff:

Brian Riepe - Editor

Brian has a BA in business administration from Western State College in Gunnison Colo. With over 10 years of professional racing and riding experience, he is deeply involved in the Rocky Mountain Cycling scene and has the knowledge, foresight, and contacts to know what is happening in the region.

Trina Ortega - Managing Editor

A native of Colorado, Trina has been riding the dirt and pavement of the Centennial State since she was a kid, back in the day when it was normal to pedal a 12-speed Huffy 38 miles roundtrip from north Denver to Morrison in denim cutoffs, with no helmet.

Her love and respect for the mountains led her to pursue work as an outdoor educator before settling into a journalism career that has focused on outdoor niche publications and grassroots media. When her local newspaper was shut down by its corporate owner two years ago, she took the helm as the founding editor of The Sopris Sun, a non-profit newspaper in Carbondale, Colo., that has redefined the value of community journalism. Prior to that work, Trina served as the production manager for Climbing Magazine and Canoe & Kayak Magazine for five years.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Colorado State University, Trina brings 20 years of writing, editing and magazine production skills to the team. She has been a contributing writer and copy editor for Mountain Flyer Magazine since January 2009.

Trina is based out of the high-desert town of Carbondale, Colorado, where she still plays in the dirt with her husband, Marty, and two boys, Tyler and Potter.
